Street evangelism
We constantly want to share the love, truth and power of God wherever we go. Often we evangelise as a part of every day life as the Holy Spirit leads. We model and encourage that in the teams and individuals God sends us. We also have slots of time where we intentionally go onto the streets in the market or door to door and evangelise. This bears wonderful fruit, especially as the people of Zimbabwe are generally open to the Gospel and to prayer.
Schools evangelism
Doors are open in several local schools to lead discipleship groups and Bible studies. This happens on a regular basis – virtually every day. We find that our volunteers experience wonderful bonds with the scholars and create lasting impressions on the lives that they interact with. We love the power of testimony and God has used the testimonies of our volunteers powerfully in schools. The Spirit has been so present during these times of sharing testimonies and it has led to school students becoming vulnerable and open to prayer and ministry.
A few times a year we even take the school children on missions to local hospitals, children’s homes and old age homes.
Hospital ministry
We believe that Jesus heals! There are weekly opportunities to minister at local hospitals and pray for the sick. We also support a ministry called Baby Heroes who pray for premature babies and their mothers. They also put care packages together for these mothers to minister to their practical needs.
Kids Camps
Burkes’ Paradise is an ideal setting for running Kids Camps. We support those already ministering to young people to run camps. We also run Kids Camps for those we minister to at schools. These camps are an opportunity to deepen the discipleship being offered to young people as well as to develop Godly friendships and mentoring relationships.
Pelandaba Kids Club
A local family hold a weekly Kids Club for about 80 children in a poorer area in Bulawayo. We support them by sending teams to the Kids Club to run the club for a day – playing sports, games, teaching and praying with the children. We are also able to host overnight camps at Burkes’ Paradise where we can minister to the children by giving them a fun experience of life and the love of God.
Children’s homes & Old Ages homes
People in these communities love it when we visit. When we have teams or individual volunteers we are able to set up opportunities to go and minister and spend time with the young and the old, including those in very poor areas.
Involvement in local church events
Depending on our church calendar, the team will be able to participate in and help out with various church gatherings, such as Youth, Ladies’ meetings, small group discipleship, worship nights etc. We would also seek to open doors for the team to minister within their strengths.
Training events
Living Waters ministry has a training course called “Soul Secure’ which equips young people to guard their heart diligently and make wise decisions. It also focuses on repentance and forgiveness and intimacy with the Lord. We would equip our volunteers through this training and also use this training material in our discipleship in the community around us.
In addition, where the team have specific areas of strength that they could impart to others, eg prophetic, evangelism etc – we seek to arrange gatherings within the community for them to train the Body of Christ. Bulawayo’s church community enjoy having outside teachers and we would anticipate a sense of of unity across churches at these events.
Linking with and Supporting other ministries
We enjoy supporting other ministries in Bulawayo including; Baby Heroes (mentioned above), Pelandaba Kids Club, Young Life, Scripture Union, Life in the Light Counselling Centre.
